For me, it was volunteering for a building project for orphaned children in Sierra Leone.
When I came home, I wanted to do more to help. So I started creating events around two of my great passions in life: sport and business.
From long-distance relays to enterprise challenges, each of our events is about bringing people together to raise money for a fantastic group of charities.
I spent many years as a senior cost planner for Babcock International. I now run my own construction consultancy firm. Over the years, I’ve delivered everything from multimillion-pound redevelopments in London to community health centres, MoD facilities and church projects.
What’s the link between construction and fundraising?
Well, the main one is people. I love working with people. And I love building teams to overcome challenges. That’s one reason why both sport and business are at the heart of our events. As both a businessman and a lifelong amateur athlete, I’ve seen the ability and impact sport and business have to bring people together and make a difference to young lives.

Tim Davies is a chartered accountant who has worked for the National Audit Office in London and as an economist for the UN in Myanmar. He was instrumental in setting up the Hope Alive Tour.
Simeon Paton is a project manager at a software company that provides data management systems, primarily within the health sector. An economist by background, he also has a wide range of experience across the international development sector.
All the events we organise are dedicated to supporting the work of these great independent charities.
Concrete Rose works with young people who are leaving home or care situations. They do this by connecting them with supported lodgings, stable homes, and a network of mentors who can offer guidance and pastoral care.
On a ridge in the Himalayan foothills Dr Graham’s Homes is a remarkable school that provides education and shelter for some of India’s poorest children.
Nobody should feel lonely or isolated in their own community. That’s the vision of this Edinburgh-based charity – inspired by legendary ‘Chariots of Fire’ Olympic sprinter Eric Liddell. The charity provides care and community services to people in need.
Based in Nottingham, UK, Operation Orphan provides targeted support to orphans and vulnerable children across the globe. Their projects range from long-term shelter and eduction programmes to rapid-response teams in times of crisis.

Starting at Cardross on the west of Scotland and finishing in the heart of the Capital of Scotland, Edinburgh the 220mile relay will take two days.
From Cardross the run heads north to Tarbet along the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Then down to Dunoon across the brief ferry crossing to Gourock then south to Troon. At Troon the team will run the Troon park run. The relay then heads north to Glasgow where it joins the Forth and Clyde canal footpath to the finish line in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.
I’ve worked with Michael for 14 years and his leadership and vision for the Hope Alive Tour has been inspirational. It continues to have an impact on the lives of children, both in the UK and beyond. Thank you, my friend.
